Shopify Store Cost in India 2026: Plans, Fees and Setup

The Shopify subscription is only one part of what a store costs. Payment charges, apps, the theme, development and upkeep often add up to more than the plan itself. Below are current Shopify prices in rupees, typical payment gateway fees and a cost table for three store sizes, based on prices checked on 10 October 2026.

Shopify plan prices in India (2026)

Shopify lists Indian prices in rupees on its India pricing page. Paying yearly saves about 25% compared with monthly billing.

Source: shopify.com/in/pricing, checked 10 October 2026. Shopify offers a 3-day free trial without a card, and most plans then cost Rs 20 a month for the first three months before standard pricing applies. There is no setup fee.

Which plan should you start with?

Most new brands start on Basic. Grow starts to make sense when monthly online sales are high enough that the 1% saving on the Shopify fee covers the higher subscription. On yearly billing the difference between Basic and Grow is Rs 4,100 a month, so you would need roughly Rs 4.1 lakh of prepaid online sales a month before Grow pays for itself on fees alone.

Transaction fees and payment gateway charges

Shopify Payments is not available in India. Indian stores use a third-party gateway such as Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree or PhonePe, and Shopify then charges its third-party fee on each online order. Manual methods such as cash on delivery are exempt from this fee.

• Shopify third-party fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced.
• Razorpay standard pricing: 2% plus 18% GST on the fee for most domestic methods, with no setup fee or annual maintenance charge.
• Razorpay premium methods: Amex, Diners, corporate cards, EMI and international cards are charged 3% plus GST under standard pricing.
• PayU and others: PayU does not publish a fixed public rate card and offers custom pricing, so get a written quote before you sign up.

Worked example on a Rs 1,000 order

On the Basic plan with Razorpay standard pricing, Shopify takes Rs 20 (2%) and Razorpay takes Rs 23.60 (2% plus GST). That is Rs 43.60, or 4.36% of the order. On Rs 5 lakh of monthly prepaid sales this is close to Rs 21,800 a month, which is why fee-per-order matters more than the plan price as you grow.

Shopify theme costs

Shopify’s Theme Store has free themes, including Dawn and Horizon, and paid themes that are a one-time purchase. According to a theme pricing tracker updated in October 2026, half of paid themes cost between $220 and $360, with a median of $300. You can preview any Theme Store theme on your store before buying.

A free theme is enough for most new stores. A paid theme is worth it when it has a specific feature you need, such as a mega menu, quick view or a better product page layout, which would otherwise cost money to build.

Shopify app costs

Apps are where monthly costs creep up. Most are billed in US dollars every 30 days, so the rupee amount moves with the exchange rate.

• Many popular apps have free plans. For example, the Judge.me reviews app has a free plan and a paid plan at $15 a month.
• Shipping, COD verification, WhatsApp, email marketing and subscription apps often charge by order volume or contact count.
• Review your installed apps every quarter and remove anything you do not use. Uninstalled apps sometimes leave code in the theme, so ask your developer to clean it up.

Domain cost

You can buy a .com or .in domain through Shopify or any registrar. First-year prices are often discounted, so check the renewal price. As an example, one major registrar listed .com renewal at Rs 1,499 a year in 2026.

Shopify development cost in India

Development cost depends on scope: theme setup and configuration, number of products, custom sections, integrations with ERP, shipping or marketplaces, and content. The ranges below are typical market ranges from published 2026 Indian pricing guides. They are not Squarebase quotes, and freelancers may charge less than agencies.

• Basic setup on a ready theme: about Rs 50,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh.
• Custom theme development with apps and integrations: about Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

Shopify maintenance cost

Shopify handles hosting, security and uptime, so maintenance is mostly about the theme, apps and content. Published Indian guides put basic monthly retainers at about Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000, and growth retainers that include speed work and minor enhancements at about Rs 40,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh. Small stores often manage with a few hours of developer time a month instead of a retainer.

How to keep Shopify costs under control

1. Pay yearly once you are sure you will stay on Shopify for 12 months.
2. Start with a free theme and add paid features only when sales data shows a need.
3. Negotiate gateway rates once monthly volume grows, and compare at least two providers.
4. Track the effective fee per order, not just the plan price, when deciding to upgrade.
5. Audit apps every quarter and remove duplicates.
